The Swiss city is beautiful and I would love to go back. Only 20 minutes drive from Annecy, Montreux is a huge city. Nestled in the hills and surrounded by beautiful lakes. What is the most popular type of accommodation?

It is a question that many property managers ask.

Accommodation is, of course, a big sector and it could be that there are many types of accommodation. However, it is a good bet that most businesses will focus on only a handful of accommodation types.
What these few types are will depend on the city that you are working in or the town that you are targeting.

If we look at some of the countries and compare some facts and figures, we can get a good idea of what the most popular types of accommodation are.

Tourism

Tourism is very important in most countries. People often book accommodation as a way of experiencing the local areas. With that in mind, it is no surprise that the most popular types of accommodation would be a hotel or motel. Both would provide guests with everything they need in terms of accommodation as well as easy access to local bars and restaurants.

In a tourist destination, you should aim to host as many guests as possible. This means that your property has to be located in a prime location. A great location, one that is highly visible and that is easy for guests to access by foot or by public transport.

A resort hotel will be similar to a hotel but will include a pool. This would allow guests to splash around and cool off in the heat of the summer sun. In winter, a resort hotel would allow guests to use hot tubs.

If your property is close to the pool, it means that you will be getting a lot of walk-by bookings. This is great for occupancy rates. If you advertise your rates on booking.com, you often have the option to not include Wi-Fi if you chose to charge more than what the market rate is.

However, if your property is close to the pool, people will be more likely to book just because the property is close to the pool. Don’t put yourself in a position where your property might be booked because of pool access.

Town

Many people live in towns as well as cities. Also, people in towns often come to towns for business or other reasons. This means that one of the most popular types of accommodation that you could use in your town would be a house. Houses tend to be good value and will attract guests, especially families.
