About the company

Flixbus moving on the road

Flix was originally a Munich-based startup called FlixBus, established by three young entrepreneurs named Jochen Engert, André Schwämmlein, and Daniel Krauss to make environmentally friendly transport more convenient and inexpensive. After the collapse of the German railway monopoly in 2013, FlixBus triumphed over significant foreign firms to become the undisputed global market leader.

As of 2015, Flix has also been making headway in foreign markets. Long-distance bus networks exist in countries like France, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Croatia, with frequent international service to countries like Norway, Spain, and England.

Flix currently serves over 30 European nations and the US and South American countries. Now more than ever, European tourists may choose from the widest variety of long-distance buses and the most cutting-edge multimodal transportation alternatives.

Over 3,000 people in over 20 offices across the world—in cities like Munich, Berlin, Paris, Milan, Zagreb, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Aarhus, Prague, Budapest, Los Angeles, Bucharest, Madrid, and Warsaw—make up the green long-distance bus provider, in addition to the thousands of people who work for our bus and train partners across Europe. Every day, everyone does their part to improve green mobility.

FlixBus is committed to its goal of providing sustainable transportation options for all. For this reason, they take extra measures to make sure their partners’ buses are suitable for passengers with special needs. Whether you need a wheelchair, require the assistance of a service animal, or are expecting a child during your vacation, they will do their best to accommodate your needs.

Wheelchair and mobility Device Access

FlixBus partners’ buses are accessible for those using wheelchairs or other mobility aids. It is possible to transport a wheelchair or other mobility device in the bus’s cargo hold.

If you have mobility issues but are still able to enter and exit the bus with or without assistance, you can use any of FlixBus routes. When you get on the bus, the driver will fold up your wheelchair or mobility device and put it in the trunk.

If you have limited mobility and will be taking a wheelchair on board, the driver will help you get on board with the help of a hydraulic lift and safely secure your wheelchair in one of two wheelchair slots available on the buses owned by their partners.

In order to fit in the passenger cabin, wheelchairs and other mobility aids must fulfill the following dimensions and weight limits.

Neither the hydraulic wheelchair lift’s capacity nor the relevant rules allow for passengers’ combined weight to exceed 600 pounds. Some buses, however, feature hydraulic lifts with a maximum design load of 800 lbs and will carry a passenger weighing up to that much. Measurements of 30 inches by 48 inches for wheelchairs (76cm x 121cm) are allowed. Meanwhile, the dimensions of a standard mobility scooter allowed are 30 by 30 by 48 inches (76 x 76 x 122cm).

There is a limit of four (4) cylinders per traveler, and they can be used in the following ways: It’s allowed to have two (2) cylinders in the cabin and two (2) cylinders in the hold as checked luggage. The maximum dimensions for a cylinder are 4.5 inches in diameter and 26 inches in length. A bus cannot carry more than 99 pounds of oxygen at once.

All of FlixBus’ partners’ buses are accessible to those with disabilities, and your service animal is more than welcome.

Only people with impairments or reduced mobility are allowed to bring their animals on buses. Dogs, cats, and other pets that aren’t trained to assist individuals with disabilities are not allowed on the bus, period. This includes bringing them in kennels or trying to stow them away in the luggage hold. Your driver has the right to inquire about the precise training your animal has undergone to assist you with your impairment when you board.

Pros and Cons of FlixBus

FlixBus Review: Is It Legit & Worth It?

Just like all things in the world, FlixBus has advantages and disadvantages. My overall experience was great, especially because the FlixBus App made everything so much easier. Here is my take on the Pros and Cons of FlixBus.

Pros of FlixBus

  • It is very easy to book a FlixBus ticket. Both their website and App are so simple and easy to understand, so booking a ticket is not a brain exercise.
  • FlixBus prices are very affordable! I love it because I can book in advance at a very low price.
  • You get to choose your seat! I think my eyes watered from happiness when I first saw this feature. This is some next-level public transport stuff. I always prefer to sit on the window seat, so I’m in love with this feature.
  • FlixBus operates in a lot of places. You can book multiple trips in one fell swoop! I did this, and I was able to save money from it. It is really much cheaper than other bus companies.
  • Most of the buses arrive on time. My first FlixBus trip bus arrived early, so that left a positive impression on me.
  • FlixBus rides are usually exactly like how they describe them. Most buses have USB charging ports (mostly nearer to the window seat). I was able to enjoy movies without worrying about my battery while on my trips.
  • The drivers will pull over at a rest stop during a long ride so you can comfortably go to the bathroom, get a snack, and stretch your legs!
  • Many of you probably wonder, “Is FlixBus safe? It’s so cheap!” and the answer is yes. FlixBus is safe, and I never felt unsafe while on their buses. It is safe, comfortable, and affordable.
  • FlixBus allows people with reduced mobility to use public transport from one city to another! They also allow service animals, which I think is great. Kudos to that!

Cons of FlixBus

  • The overnight bus is quite expensive. We recommend you save money for a hotel stay instead.
  • The quality of bus services depends on the operators of the local buses. Each local bus is different. Hence there is no uniformity even though they’re run by the same company.
  • The bus sometimes stops near the bus station, not at the actual bus station. You should go to the bus station early and be alert for the lime green bus.
  • If you don’t want to shuffle through a crowded bus, arrive early for your FlixBus trip. Trust me on this.
  • FlixBus WiFi is not that helpful on most of my trips because my mobile data is faster. However, it has its moments sometimes.
